Students Express Fear Over UNILORIN Proposed Motorist Park

University of Ilorin students have advised management to look before leaping into the creation of a new motorist park at the main gate even though it is for transportation ease.
Atmosphere of the University community was filled with fear of adding more problems with the current transportation challenge faced on campus after the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, disclosed that there would be a new park at the main gate to solve transportation problem in campus.“This move was to address the problem faced by the majority of the students while coming for lectures early in the morning and also in the evening while going back to their various homes after lectures,” Ambali said while he was on a visit to the site for the proposed Park.
“Taxi cabs and buses coming into the University campus from town would discharge their passengers at the new park from where the commuter buses would now ferry the passengers into the old Park inside the campus.“Apart from solving the persistent transportation problem on the campus, the new Park would alsoreduce over-speeding and reckless driving by some of the commercial drivers plying the University road.” The Vice Chancellor concluded.
Students have expressed different opinions to themove. While some commend the effort of the school for the development; many commented that, the creation of a new pack will not really solve the problem.NAIJA CampusVibes interviewed a student who pleaded anonymity, he said: “what the University really need is the provisions of more buses to cater for the massive population of students living off campus. We may have to pay more when the vehicle he have to board becomes two.”“I blame the school management for causing the problem by not providing adequate hostels for the students and I belief until that is done, the transportation problem cannot be solved.
